Conservation Volunteers New Zealand connects people with nature through volunteering and also runs the Conservation Work Skills (CWS) programme.

Literacy Aotearoa collaborates with CWS in a number of regions to deliver education to participants, supporting their skills development and their chances of employment success.

Here is the Nelson/Whakatū  CWS group in the classroom working with their Literacy Aotearoa tutor and CWS team leader.

The Conservation Work Skills (CWS) programme was developed by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and aims to equip participants with practical and transferable skills and provide opportunities for local job seekers to gain paid employment in conservation related work. The CWS programme is effective and has run since 2018. It recognises that caring for the environment provides a platform for engaging with people, building skills and employment pathways, as well as improved health and wellbeing.

Collaborations that support organisations in the community promoting positive pathways are something wLiteracy Aotearoa are proud to be involved in and we welcome the chance to add extra support to CWS programmes around Aotearoa.
