National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education
(Vocational Tutor / Lecturer or Workplace Trainer)

Literacy Aotearoa offers the National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (Vocational Tutor / Lecturer or Workplace Trainer) by negotiation, to groups of adult literacy educators (or intending adult literacy educators) around the country.

The National Certificate recognises specialist expertise in adult education and training, and contributes to the improvement of the foundation skills (literacy and/or numeracy) of adult learners in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

People who achieve the National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (Vocational Tutor / Lecturer or Workplace Trainer) may wish to progress to the National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (Educator) and/or to qualifications in Adult Education and Training.

Further Information:

The compulsory section of the National Certificate is Unit Standard 21204: Develop adult learners’ literacy and numeracy skills within a training or education programme.  This standard is intended to raise the literacy/numeracy awareness of an adult educator from a non-literacy/numeracy subject area where the main purpose is to develop skills other than literacy and/or numeracy.  The elective credits may be gained from a range of standards, as appropriate to the educator’s needs and context.  This is not an entry-level qualification.

  • Supervised practice

Entry Criteria

  • Experience in adult vocational teaching or foundation education;
  • Demonstrated ability to complete a programme of study at Level 5;
  • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident status.

Course Fees
Course fees are $1, 800.00 (incl. GST).
